Considering the Height of the Desk in the Reading Room

Cover image-Immortal classical works of the General Kim Jong Il

On September 26, 1981, while looking around the Grand People’s Study House which entered the completion stage, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung said that the desks in the reading room should be individual ones and have to be adjustable according to the height of readers.

And he said if the desks had all the same height regardless of the readers’ height, tall people might feel waist ache sitting for only 3 hours so it would have been better if at least the part of the desk for putting book had been designed to be controlled according to the eyesight angle.

Then he continued that the desks could be left as they were for the present and could be remodeled in future in the manner of leaning a little forward and making available to raise up and down.

He added that there were many cabinetmaking factories in Pyongyang so it wouldn’t be a big problem for them and after modernizing all the desks in the reading room, the present ones could be handed over to primary, secondary schools and universities.
