The site of Anhak Palace is that of a royal palace of Koguryo Dynasty and it is located at Anhak-dong, Taesong district, Pyongyang city.
Anhak Palace was the royal palace from 427 AD, when Koguryo Dynasty moved its capital from Kuknae walled city to Pyongyang, to 586 AD, when Koguryo Dynasty again moved its capital to Pyongyang walled city.
Its total area was about 380 000 m2 and the Palace was surrounded by a square castle wall, each side of which was 622m long.
Both interior and exterior of the castle wall was built of stones at the lower part, piled up firm with compact earth on top of them.
The palace was 2 488m around.
The eastern, western and northern walls had one gate each, while there were three gates installed along the southern wall. Of the three in the south, the middle one was the biggest. And there was a floodgate at the southern and northern walls respectively.
There was a pavilion belvedere at four corners of the castle wall and a moat around it, which was made to collect water from the streams flowing in from the mountains around in order to strengthen its defense.
